Who is Jesus Christ, Yeshua the Messiah?

Impressions of the Shroud of Turin

Knowing who God is and what his name is so that we call on the correct God is important. If it wasn't important, then God's name would not have been important to Jesus.  In this article we find that God's name is very important.

Throughout the Bible are recorded Jesus' words and the words given to us by our Creator. His first words recorded were when he was separated from his mother Mary and Joseph and when they found him in his Father's house. The Bible is our only accurate source to get to know the one True God, Jehovah and the one he sent, his son Jesus.  If it is not in the Bible, then it is false doctrine.

John 3:
16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. 18 Whoever exercises faith in him is not to be judged. Whoever does not exercise faith has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. 19 Now this is the basis for judgment: that the light has come into the world, but men* have loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were wicked.

Question: If Jesus sent himself, then who is this God who sent “his only-begotten Son”?

Question: Does not “begotten” have the meaning created?

Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn* of all creation;
*prōtotokos in Koine Greek.

In this scripture we find Jesus talking about being made or created long ago.
Proverbs 8: (Geneva Bible)
22 The Lord hath possessed me in the beginning of his way: I was[j]before his works of old.
23 [k]I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, and before the earth.
24 When there were no depths, was I begotten, when there were no fountains abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains were settled: and before the hills, was I begotten.
--
34 For he that findeth me, findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord*.
[*Lord is often where they removed God's name YHVH which is known to be Yehovah in Hebrew from many ancient Hebrew scholars. Jehovah is the English transliteration.]
35 But he that sinneth against me, hurteth his own soul: and all that hate me, love death.

Proverbs 8: (NWT, Modern English)
22  Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, The earliest of his achievements of long ago. 23  From ancient times* I was installed, From the start, from times earlier than the earth.
24  When there were no deep waters,t I was brought forth,*When there were no springs overflowing with water.
25  Before the mountains were set in place,Before the hills, I was brought forth,
26  When he had not yet made the earth and its fields Or the first clods of earth’s soil.
27  When he prepared the heavens,u I was there; When he marked out the horizon* on the surface of the waters,v
28  When he established* the clouds above,When he founded the fountains of the deep,
29  When he set a decree for the sea That its waters should not pass beyond his order, When he established* the foundations of the earth,
30  Then I was beside him as a master worker. I was the one he was especially fond ofy day by day;I rejoiced before him all the time;z
31  I rejoiced over his habitable earth,And I was especially fond of the sons of men.*32  And now, my sons, listen to me;Yes, happy are those who keep my ways.
33  Listen to discipline  and become wise,And never neglect it.
34  Happy is the man who listens to me By coming early to* my doors day by day,By waiting next to my doorposts;
35  For the one finding me will find life, And he receives approval from Jehovah.
36  But the one who ignores me harms himself,*And those who hate me love death.”c

Question: Who is this person who is writing in first person form? And was he created or was he always?

John 17:3
This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

Question: If Jesus is God, then who is this “the only one true God” that we are to know, (notice the “AND” in this scripture) along with the other true God, Jesus?

Question: If there is only one true God, then how is Jesus the one true God, if he was sent by this other “One true god”? “Is there “two” “one” true God's? Doesn't “one” mean “one”, so that there is only ONE true God?

Question: If we want to have everlasting life who are these two separate entities talked about in John 17:3 we need to get to know?

These are the first recorded words of Christ when he ran off to go to the Temple and to get to study the scriptures.

“How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?”
Luke 2:49 KJV

49 But he said to them: “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in the house of my Father?”
Luke 2:49

John2:

16  And he said to those selling the doves: “Take these things away from here! Stop making the house of my Father a house of commerce!”*

Question: Whose house did Jesus say it was?

Matthew 16:
16 Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17  In response Jesus said to him: “Happy you are, Simon son of Joʹnah, because flesh and blood* did not reveal it to you, but my Father in the heavens did.”

Question: Who did Jesus say revealed who Jesus was to Simon?

Jesus, while standing on the earth and teaching, was always telling us to worship and pray to the Father in Heaven, and to make his name (Yehovah in Hebrew and Jehovah in English) known.

In the Lord's prayer he makes this clear as can be;
Matthew6:
“You must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.

“You must pray in this way” : Sounds like a command from our Lord and Savior.

“Our Father” :

Question: Whose Father?

“in Heaven”: Who are we to pray to?

Question: Where was Jesus standing when he commanded us to pray this way?

“Let your NAME be sanctified”

Psalm 83: 18  May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Question; Whose NAME did Jesus (Yeshua) say we need to honor and sanctify?

“Let your will be done”

Question: Whose will did Jesus ask to be done?

John 14:28

You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I am.”

Question: Who did Jesus say was greater than he is?

John 10:36

Play
36  do you say to me* whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

Question: Who did Jesus say he was, in his own words?

Mark 10:18

Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good except one, God.

Luke 18:19

Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good except one, God.

The word “good” comes from Koine Greek “agathos” Which translated to English is like “good, better, best” form of “good” and this is the highest form of “good” often used in relation to humans who are at the top of all form of their achievements. The highest “good”.

Whereas the fine shepherd is in this scripture.
John 10:11
I am the “fine”* shepherd; the fine shepherd surrenders his life in behalf of the sheep.
*“kalos” in Greek is a normal form of “good” as best translated to “fine”.

Matthew 17:5

5While he was still speaking, look! a bright cloud overshadowed them, and look! a voice out of the cloud said: “This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved. Listen to him.”c

Question: “Is Jesus a great con man and ventriloquist, or the Son of the living Jehovah God? And who told us to “Listen to him”?

John 4:34

34 Jesus said to them: “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Question: In Jesus' own words what is/was his mission?

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22  Many will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works* in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew* you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’

Question: When people prophesy, expel demons, and do works in Jesus' name, does that mean they are righteous people and are “saved”? Why do you suppose he said that? Did he realize that there will be plenty of people using his name to make money or to give themselves some sort of Church prestige? This “spiritual egotism” pretending to be “God's Mediator” is hated by God and Jesus.

Question: What is the one and only requirement Jesus told us about those who enter Jehovah God's Kingdom?

1 Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus,

Question: If Jesus is “God” then what exactly does this really mean? Why would Jesus need a mediator if he is the Mediator to himself? Is Jesus really “God” or is he God's only begotten son who was sent to us by Jehovah God?

Philippians 2:
5 Keep this mental attitude in you that was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although he was existing in God’s form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.

Question: Did Jesus say he was equal to God?

7 No, but he emptied himself and took a slave’s form and became human.*
[*came to be in the likeness of men. ]

Question: Can a slave or servant of God, ever be equal to the Master?

8 More than that, when he came as a man,* he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, yes, death on a torture stake.* (*starous means post or pole not cross)

Question: Was Jesus completely obedient to Jehovah God, the Father in heaven?

9 For this very reason, God exalted him to a superior position  and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name,

Question: Who exalted Jesus to a superior position, for his complete surrender to the will of Whom?

At the Transfiguration of Christ, who was in the clouds saying again; “This is my son, whom I love.”

Transfiguration by Alexandr Ivanov, 1824

Matthew 17:
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

Matthew 17:5

5 While he was still speaking, look! a bright cloud overshadowed them, and look! a voice out of the cloud said: “This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved. Listen to him.”

Questions: Who is God's son? Who is God? What is God's name that we are to sanctify?

John 17:26
26 I have made your name known to them and will make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.”

Question:  Why is it important to call God by his holy Name, Jehovah or Yehovah ?
